James Rowland Piece of Work THU 6th MAR 7.30pmDescriptionA STORY ABOUT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN.
James has been touring his storytelling theatre shows for half his adult life. This year was different though. Returning home after his first stint away, he received a letter that exploded his life, and the tour became a search: for the person who sent it, for a sense of home, and to maybe save a life. Featuring James’ captivating mix of storytelling and comedy (as well as Shakespeare’s Hamlet) this remarkable road trip follows his critically acclaimed run at this year’s Edinburgh Festival, the sell-out show Learning to Fly and The Songs of Friendship Trilogy. Ocean Chillingworth Monster Show -THU 13th FEB 7.30pmDescriptionAs the iconic 1931 film Frankenstein plays silently in the background, a lone creature stands on stage to perform the live score. From deep inside a frankly ridiculous costume, they attempt the impossible task of delivering the entire soundtrack using just one voice. Dialogue, sound effects, music, everything. Monster Show is an uncompromising attempt to re-dub every moment of audio from this black and white horror classic. It's a trans act of purging outdated narratives, championing radical bodies and being many things at once. And it is alive.
Monster Show is part 1 of The Extinction Trilogy. Commissioned by Norwich Arts Centre, Colchester Arts Centre and Old Diorama Arts Centre. Originally co-commissioned by Cambridge Junction (with support from the Stobbs New ideasFund) and Old Diorama Arts Centre. Additional support from LIFT and Arts Council England. Praise for previous work “powerfully and unashamedly clever” WhatsOnStage “Super smart... I couldn’t take my eyes off it.” Matt Trueman, Culture Wars “Smart, brave and rebellious.” Exeunt “A startling, dramatic and oddly moving performance. Brilliantly simple, clear and economical in its construction it nonetheless becomes something much more complex in its execution.” Lone Twin “a strange, wild and oddly readable bit of art.” Postcards from the Gods

Seth Kriebel -Faust THU 27th FEB 7.30pmDescriptionCome right in. Have a seat. Name your price. Faust is a new version of a very old story, an interactive twist on the classic tale of the infamous doctor and his deal with the devil. The world has changed since Dr. Faustus summoned the demon Mephistopheles, but one thing has remained the same: Nothing comes without a cost. Today we have conjured A.I., nuclear power, social media, next-day delivery… and we bargain daily. Each show is unique, guided by the audience’s choices. Combining elements of Marlowe, Goethe and European folklore, Faust explores the path to damnation or salvation and asks how the old tales can help us navigate our complicated times. ‘Delivers both laughter and poetry. ★★★★’ –The Stage on Kriebel & Bouras’ Beowulf. ‘Stunning in both its simplicity and its power… turns the concept of immersive theatre on its head.★★★★★ - Londonist on Kriebel & Bouras’ A House Repeated.
